Riverfolk / Theatre of Disasters




Riverfolk Gallery portrays the typical and important characters of the Mississippi's past, captured in a series of period settings, each with its own story to tell.

Theatre of Disasters Gallery has an audio visual presentation of river tragedies, including the great earthquake of 1811, the yellow fever plagues, and steamboat disasters.

Examples of the museum's collection in these galleries are:
  • Dioramas of Barge Workers, Mark Twain, Keelboatmen, Riverboat Captain, Riverboat Gamblers, Showboat Performers, Levee Workers, Light Keepers
  • Showboat performer costumes and stage props
  • Victorian Furniture
